How to Find a Folder in Outlook If It Misplaced Mistakenly?

Outlook has been proven a significant advantage to many people, especially working professionals, who have to handle hundreds of emails every day. Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office suite, which allows its users to do many tasks simultaneously when on it. It includes applications like a calendar, notes, journal, browsing of the web, etc. It also allows users to make different folders to add various files to group them under one heading.

The issue arrives when users misplace their folder in Outlook. Sometimes, they forget the folder’s name, or they accidentally drag it someplace else, which results in not getting the information they want. Are you one of them who has the same problem? You do not have to worry anymore as we tell you the various methods to find your folder with ease.

Method 1: Check Neighboring folders

If your required folder was in a particular place, and you accidentally drag and drop it somewhere else, there is a high probability of that folder being placed in the nearby folder only. Your folder might have a difference of one level and not three or four levels. You can use the ‘+’ character to go through the folder. Another way is to use the arrows beside the folder in Outlook. You might find your folder in some nearby place only.

Method 2: List of Every Folder

The above method will not come in handy when you do not know that the folder is misplaced by accidentally dragging. Checking every folder in Outlok will be a tedious job, and you cannot waste your necessary time on it. To make this task a little simpler, you can now search for your folder by looking at the list of all folders with the help of the Folder Size option. To access it, follow the given steps:

  1. Go to the inbox side and right-click on it.
  2. Select ‘Properties’.
  3. You will see an option of ‘Folder Size’. Click on it.

There you go. You will get the list of the names of all folders and sub-folders in an easy scroll window. Once you get your folder, check the path of the folder, and you can now easily find it.

Method 3: Instant Search

Do you remember the name of an item inside the folder in Outlook? If yes, then this method will help you find your folder in Outlook . If you do a mailbox wide search, you will get the folder. To do this, follow the given steps:

  1. Select ‘All Outlook Items.’
  2. In the ‘Outlook Instant Search Bar’, write the word you remember from the email.
  3. Double click on that message and open it separately.
  4. To enable advanced find, press ‘Ctrl+Shift+F.’
  5. Finally, click on the ‘Browse’ button, and it will navigate you to the folder you are looking for.

Method 4: Find A Folder in Outlook Via VBA Code

If you remember the name of at least a part of the folder’s name, you can find it out by VBA code, i.e. Visual Basic Application. Follow the below-given steps:

  1. Press on the ‘Alt + F11’ keys, which will open the windows of Microsoft Visual Basic Application.
  2. Once you have opened the window, you will have to run some codes.
  3. Once the coding process is done, press the ‘F5’ key to run the code.
  4. A dialogue box will appear on your screen. Write the name you remember in the text box given and press ‘Ok’.
  5. It will ask you to activate the folder, press on ‘Yes’.
  6. It will then lead you to the folder, and then just drag it back where you want to place the folder.

Method 5: Search by Windows

This method applies to users who are still using Windows 7. Users who have the 2013 version or Windows 8 and above, will not be able to use it. You just have to search for the item via the search bar on the start menu. Right-click on your item and select ‘Show Conversation’ when your item is shown. With the search results, an explorer window will also open up. Select the ‘Details’ view from the view box, and you can now locate your folder name given there.
